Dubai is one of those places that I had never heard of up until just a few years ago.
Since hearing about Dubai, it has become an economic powerhouse with new developments and projects cropping up all over the place.
Within a span of a few years, it captured many world records in terms of it's buildings and projects currently under way.
If we do decide to visit Dubai, it probably won't be for a couple of years simply because there are so many interesting and unique projects that are currently under construction or that are planned within the next few years that we'd rather wait until most of it has been completed before we go for a vacation there.
In the future, Dubai will probably be a place for a real vacation - meaning it will be mainly for fun!
We'll probably decide to stay a week there (since there are so many parks and theme attractions being built there).
First, we'd probably go and see some of the main buildings that are in Dubai - you know, the ones they always show pictures of. This will include a visit to the world's first 7-star hotel (yup, you read it right - 7-star hotel!) the Burj Al Arab, the world's tallest building the Burj Dubai (currently under construction), a walk through some of the old world sections of the city, as well as some photo opportunities at some of the grand mosques and other architectural wonders.
The next day, we'll probably go for some fun in the sun and visit Wild Wadi Dubia - a huge water park with 24 water rides. If we can, we'll also try to squeeze in a quick visit to the Dubai Zoo (which is currently undergoing relocation and renovations).
The following day, we'll spend it shopping. Dubai has numerous shopping malls and from what I can gather, prices are pretty inexpensive. One of the malls we'll definitely check out will be the Mall Of Emirates - one of the largest malls in Dubai. We'll also check out some of the other malls to see what kind of deals we can uncover.
Halfway through our vacation, we'll probably be all baked from the hot scorching sun, so why not do some skiing! Located at the Mall Of Emirates is the worlds largest indoor ski park. We'll spend the day there and compare it to some of the slopes we have here in Canada.
Next, we'll go and check out several of the man-made islands that are currently under construction and/or are near completion. This will include the Palm Island (man-made island that looks like a palm tree) and The World (man-made islands that looks like the world).
While we're visiting the man-made islands, we'll also stop by Hydropolis (currently under construction), which is the world's first luxury underwater hotel.
The following day, we'll go check out the world's largest theme park - Dubai Land (currently under construction). At Dubai Land, they will have several sub-areas, one of which will include a Jurassic Park-style area complete with life-sized animatronic roaming dinosaurs.
Finally, we'll wrap up by visiting some of the local museums and maybe revisit some of the shopping or buildings for more photo opportunities.
We'll target a visit to Dubai maybe in 2012...hopefully by then, most of the major attractions will have been completed.
